Medical Decision Points

Odetta Hanna from Sekisui Diagnostics asked, “Do you have a good resource to obtain the medical decision points for coagulation assays?”

From George, yes, the text I find most helpful for clinical decision-making is Kitchens CS, Kessler CM, Konkie BA. Consultative Hemostasis and Thrombosis, Third Edition, 2013, Elsevier, Philadelphia. Also, if you pardon the self-promotion, I recommend our pucket handbook, Marques MB, Fritsma GA. Quick Guide to Hemostasis, Third Edition, 2015, AACC Press, Washington DC.

From George, a recent publication addresses critical hemostasis decision points: Lippi G, Adcock D, Simundic AM, Tripodi A, Favaloro EJ. Critical laboratory values in hemostasis: toward consensus. Ann Med. 2017;49:455–61.

There are some nice android
There are some nice android and Apple format educational apps which we have in the google play/apple app stores. They are called iHemostasis and Haemoscore. They do not mention any brand names of any coagulation tests or analyzers, only providing educational information about interpretation of coagulation tests and clinical decision scoring algorithms. It could be useful.

Another excellent book about
Another excellent book about hemostasis testings and some clinical decisions is just issued by Humana Press: “Hemostasis and Thrombosis Methods and Protocols.” Table of contents and full chapter 2: “Preanalytical Issues in Hemostasis and Thrombosis Testing” is available at http://www.springer.com/us/book/9781493971947.
