PTT Specimen Stability

Is the stability shortened if the cap is removed? For example: A PT specimen is centrifuged and tested within an hour of collection. The cap was removed for testing. Close to four hours after collection, we get an order to run a PTT on the specimen. Will results be dependable? Mona

Dr. Adcock Agrees

Kim, I received a confirmatory e-mail from Dr. Adcock, agreeing that plasma centrifuged but maintained on the cells are managed by the same rules as whole blood, though she comments their stability probably exceeds that of uncentrifuged whole blood. Geo.
