About George

About me

Hello, I’m George Fritsma. I’m a teacher and lab practitioner, the author of six hemostasis chapters in Rodak BF, Fritsma GA, Doig K: Hematology Clinical Principles and Applications, 3rd Edition, 2007 [Elsevier]; and the co-author with Marisa Marques, MD, and Vishnu Reddy, MD, of Quick Guide to Coagulation Testing and Quick Guide to Hematology Testing [AACC Press], respectively. I’m an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham where I manage http://uabcoag.net.

I’ve taught in Clinical Laboratory Technician and Clinical Laboratory Scientist programs since 1972 in Detroit, Peoria, Chicago, Saudi Arabia and Birmingham, Alabama and worked as an applications specialist for Baxter Healthcare Corporation and Esoterix Coagulation. I’m married to Margaret Giddens Fritsma, a specialist in blood banking (SBB), Associate Professor of Pathology and Clinical Laboratory Sciences and author of the Handbook for AABB Assessors [AABB Press] and the Quick Guide to Transfusion Medicine [AACC Press].

In addition to bicycling, Margaret and I enjoy reading, music, skiing, travel and communication with our friends and family including Greg Fritsma [Chicago] and Teri Fritsma [Minneapolis-St. Paul] and granddaughter Rosa. We live in Trussville, a suburb of beautiful Birmingham, Alabama.

I hope you find Fritsma Factor interesting and informative, and I hope you will feel free to contribute often. Geo.
